NEWS: LOCAL FEES FOR WORK PERMIT HOLDERS

LOCAL FEES ARE AVAILABLE FOR THE FOLLOWING 2 CATEGORIES IN RELATION TO WORK PERMIT:

CATEGORY 1. A visitor with a work permit: A person who is authorized to work in Canada, having been issued a work permit.

Documents Required:
1. Passport of the student
2. Valid work permit
3. Letter from employer <<< This means you need to be ACTIVELY EMPLOYED

CATEGORY 2. A dependent of a visitor with a work permit: A dependent of a person who is authorized to work in Canada, having been issued a work permit.
Documents Required:
1. Passport of the visitor with the work permit
2. Valid work permit
3. Letter from employer <<< This means you need to be ACTIVELY EMPLOYED
4. Birth certificate of the student
5. Passport of the student

Moreover, some schools charge local fees for holders of work permit. Some offer to both WP holders and their dependents, and some do not. Here is a list of institutions that I have researched so far that offers local fees to WP Holders or their dependents. BE SURE TO CHECK WITH YOUR OWN SCHOOL to ensure you that fee exemption applies to YOUR OWN TYPE OF PERMIT.

These are the EXCLUSIONS for these 2 categories:
The following students are excluded from the categories of visitors with a work permit and their dependents, and are not therefore eligible to pay domestic tuition fees:
– a visitor who is a graduate teaching assistant;
– an international student holding a work permit to complete his/her co-op, internship or medical residency employment;
– an international student holding an open work permit for post-graduate work (usually for up to three years of work opportunities upon graduation);
– an international student whose spouse or common-law partner has received a work permit as a result of the international student holding a valid Study Permit; and
– an international student holding an “Off-Campus Work Permit”.
